2.5 years: hygiene skills
Your baby’s physical activity continues to increase. He sleeps, as before, for 10-12 hours a day, of which 1.5-2 hours in the afternoon. It is difficult to lay some children in their two and a half years in the afternoon, but pediatricians recommend daytime sleep until school. To show violent physical activity all day without rest is quite difficult for the child’s body.
Active walking, jumping, climbing and other movements develop the skeleton and muscles of the child. During this period, a more or less characteristic configuration of the spine appears, so it is important to monitor proper posture. Muscle volume increases, and the amount of adipose tissue decreases. Sexual differences in the development of the muscular system become noticeable – boys have stronger muscles than girls.
Make sure that the child rinses his mouth after eating, washed his hands, washed and so on – all hygiene skills must be stimulated by their constant repetition.
According to pediatricians, the average age for developing more or less stable and informed control over excretory functions is from 22 to 30 months. Thus, a 2.5 year old child is usually already accustomed to the potty.
However, there are frequent cases when a child by this age has not mastered the “toilet science”. This, of course, is very worrying for parents.
Do not panic. The timing of the formation of reflexes is individual. It is important to be sensitive, not to force or intimidate the child.
Do not scold the baby for wet pants and do not show your dissatisfaction.
You can not force a child to sit on a pot and forcefully keep him there against his will.
Such aggressive methods are completely useless and, moreover, can cause a protest on the part of the child and completely discourage his desire to even approach the pot.
Praise every successful attempt. Offer a pot regularly, but unobtrusively, especially after sleeping and after eating. Do not forget that the child learns through observation. An example of adults, older brothers and sisters, even toys, is a very effective way. If the child shows persistent rejection, leave him alone for a month or two.
After 3 years, the vast majority of healthy children are able to use the potty. The baby will certainly master this skill when it is ripe.
How to communicate
At this age, the center of attraction for the child is still an adult. The joint activity of the baby and parents is the main condition for the full development. His intelligence, emotional sphere and even physical condition directly depend on the quality of communication with adults.
At the same time, a child of two and a half years old needs to communicate with peers. The first specific contacts appear. Outwardly, they look like fuss, running around, screaming and antics. These actions are usually very emotional and relaxed.
Children watch each other with interest. The desire to imitate peers is also clearly manifested. On this basis, the first joint games arise.
How to develop
A child of two and a half years old develops in motion, so dances, outdoor games, logo rhythmic workouts must be present in his life. A ball, a hoop, dumbbells, a jump rope – this simple inventory will help the child develop agility, coordination of movements and endurance.
For a change, you can buy a ring-throw, a target and darts (with Velcro), pins and balls (“children’s bowling”), balancers and barriers. Active spending time at this age is much more useful than, for example, memorizing letters on cards.
As for the “quiet” classes, it should be remembered: a child in 2.5 years is able to concentrate for 10-15 minutes. Do not try to hold it in place longer than this time. Let there be several short classes than one long one, even if it seems to you to be extremely exciting.
At this age, it is useful for the child to bother (under the supervision of parents) in the sensor boxes. They can be filled with a wide variety of materials: cereals (buckwheat, millet, rice), natural materials (leaves, pebbles, feathers, cones, sand, clay), fabric and accessories (ribbons, pieces of fur, cotton wool, beads, buttons), paper (confetti, napkins, serpentine), liquid fillers (water, jelly, soap suds, snow, starch), kinetic sand and various “lizunami”.
The interaction of the child with various textures and materials enriches his sensory experience through tactile sensations and develops fine motor skills. Games in the touch box provide endless possibilities for creativity and imagination: children can play the way they want.
Using touch boxes, you can also organize didactic games: an adult can give a child tasks that develop sorting and classification skills (you can add figures in the boxes that differ in color, shape, size), measurements and counting.
When organizing such classes, remember safety! Keep small objects out of your mouth and nose!
Many children aged 2.5 years are very fond of stickers.
